When I become a dad/mom.. what?

As a child, I grew up with sooo much "house rules". Some of which is "no t.v during dinner!", "go to bed at 9", "no playing of computers on weekdays", you can't go to a party alone!" <-- Yes. `Til I turned 14! Imagine having your grandpa waiting outside the house of your friend, which happens to be your crush.. hehe. Love you grandpa. :D

I surpassed my teenage days, and I can say that I've done what's needed to be done, even those things that would freak my folks out. (don't tell my mom.)

Well anyway, I've asked several friends of mine about this kind of topic. About, what kind of parents would they be? Will they be as strict or not? At what point?

So here's the top ten things they would propose as "rules":

1. No suitors, gf/bf until they finish high school.

2. No secrets should be hidden. It would be lovely to have open conversations once in a while.

3. Smoking and drinking is allowed. So long as they use their own money. But if it has to come from our wallets, a big NO!

4. "Barkadas"/peers should be introduced so it will be a lot easier for us to trust his/her friends.

5. Bad words are a big NO NO!

6. Hear mass every sunday. That day is considered as "family day". It's very important!

7. If they think they can decide own their own, then do it. But if a mistake is committed, they should at least learn instead of pointing fingers.

8. If they want something, gadgets or anything, they should earn it.

9. Fighting is definitely prohibited. So long as they don't start the fight, we'll back `em up and join the riot!

10. Respect is the 1st thing that should be practiced at home. Every day, every hour, every minute, every second.

As one of my friends would put it, "I want my child to grow as an independent individual, learn from how we've brought them up especially the values that they can pass on to the next generation that reflects what kind of parents we had been to them."

So, what would you do?

How fast or how slow can you learn?

This topic I found at our local papers caught my eye. It's rather interesting to find out if our brain is a good knowledge absorber or something that gets wasted every time. Some people will find this easy to answer. Some would actually say that it's a choice. In my lifetime, I've seen two types of these learners. People who learn fast but forget fast, and people who learn slow but "gets it" quickly.

Whether it's academic, life wisdom, or something that heightens up your reflexes, it is your basis if you are a fast or a slow catcher. Here are some of the things I learned in my 20+ years:

1. At the end of the day, all that matters is self-respect. (Rocky movie)
2. A tomato is a fruit.
3. Unprepared events are the best parties around.
4. I.Q tests looks very easy, but you'll never get a perfect score.
5. You really can identify one's personality through music.
6. Paranoia hurts you even before the real thing happens.
7. Real friends don't just listen and understand your problems. They scold at you.
8. Negative thinkers really do end up poor, financially or emotionally.
9. Hugs are better than kisses. Anyone can fake a kiss.
10. It's not embarrassing to ask. (This is very important)

Well, that's that. Got something new lately?
